What
do I do if my child refuses to get help or wont
admit theres a problem?
Sometimes
children find it too difficult to talk to a mental health
professional. They may also misinterpret their parents
caring decision to get them help as proof they are crazy
or weird or just dont fit in. Children
may worry they symptoms are unusual and going to see
a therapist sometimes adds to their apprehension initially.
A few children are too frightened to admit they have
a problem at all. It is therefore not surprising that
some children refuse to engage in treatment. In these
situations, it is often the parents or other family
members who need to seek guidance, at least in the beginning.
An experienced professional can counsel patents on how
to deal with a child that cannot acknowledge or refuses
to seek help for a problem.
