Hello and welcome to Saint Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute's home page. Take a little time to surf through our website to learn more about what we have to offer. We will update this site regularly to keep the information relevant, current, and responsive to your needs.
We are a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, a leading national healthcare management company. We are also an academic affiliate of Saint Louis University Health Sciences Center. As such, the Institute is in a wonderful position to offer the best of two worlds. We unite the academic excellence and knowledge expected at a world-class teaching and research university with the professional dedication and business acumen of a major healthcare organization. Many of our staff have academic appointments and teach graduate and postgraduate courses as a part of the Division of Behavioral Medicine in the Department of Community and Family Medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. Teaching is learning. It is one way we keep abreast of the most recent advances in the field of behavioral medicine. Supervising graduate students in their research endeavors, as well as conducting our own scientific investigations, allows us to be pioneers in discovering more effective treatments for various disorders. For example, a recent outcome study conducted by the Anxiety Disorders Center found that 73% of clients discharged from their intensive program experienced moderate or significant improvement in symptoms. Three to six months later, 86% had retained or improved upon their treatment gains. This study demonstrated that even individuals with severe psychiatric problems that have not responded to prior treatment can benefit from intensive cognitive-behavioral treatment. The results of this and other studies at the Institute contributes to the knowledge base of our field. The cornerstone of Saint Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute is our reliance on scientific, empirically-based treatments. In other words, treatments that have been shown to work. However, we are holistic in our goals, considering biological, behavioral and emotional results, and integrating spirituality in the care of clients who want to work with spiritual and religious issues in their treatment. I would like to take this opportunity to highlight two particularly visible programs of the Institute: the Anxiety Disorders Center and the Program for Psychology and Religion. Both programs offer, depending on an individual's needs, other intensive outpatient programs of treatment several hours or more a day or inpatient programs. Group and individual therapies are part of both programs, as well. Click on either to find in-depth information on these programs, serving clients from across the country. Thank you for your interest in Saint Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute. If you would like more information about any of the programs or would like to provide us with your thoughts, please click on Feedback and Contact Info. If you would like to speak with one of us, please call the Institute at 1-877-245-2688 and ask for the Intake Office. We look forward to working with you. Sincerely,
Ronald B. Margolis,
