Clinical
Hypnosis
Hypnosis is a state of focused attention, inner absorption and concentration. When you are more focused inwardly, the body is better able to relax and the mind can work toward change and healing. The psychologist who uses hypnosis assists the development of the person's own ability to relax and concentrate.
Clinical hypnosis teaches the person to consciously enter deeper states of relaxation, using more of the mind's healing capabilities for problems like overeating, smoking, or pain management. The successful use of hypnosis for pain management has been documented in thousands of books and articles, but should be performed only with a trained specialist licensed in a field like psychology (PhD, PsyD), medicine (MD, DO) or dentistry (DDS, DMD). Specialists accredited by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) have met extensive training and certification requirements, and meet rigorous professional and ethical standards.
