What's New at Saint Louis Behavioral Medicine

Anxiety Group for Children – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) group beginning Saturday, January 8, 2011. Group is designed for children ages 8-12 who are currently or previously in individual therapy. However, preparation sessions can be provided for those who have not had CBT. A concurrent parent group is also provided. Group is offered two Saturdays a month from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. at 1129 Macklind Ave., St. Louis, MO, 63110. Groups are led by Dr. Laura Chackes, Licensed Psychologist, and Dr. Rochelle Holtzman, Postdoctoral Resident, from the Anxiety Disorder Center team who specialize in the treatment of childhood anxiety disorders. The Eating Disorders Program at SLBMI offers the following new services at the Chesterfield office located at 16216 Baxter Rd. Ste. 399:

Free Weekly Eating Disorders Recovery Group facilitated by Cathy Lander-Goldberg, MSW, LCSW. Tuesday evenings 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Group members will be asked to make a weekly commitment and to cancel within 24 hours if they are occasionally unable to attend. Space is limited. Appropriate for clients with Anorexia and Bulimia ages 14 and older. Clients should contact Ms. Lander-Goldberg prior to attending the group at (636) 532-9188, Ext. 712.

Free New Multi-Family Eating Disorders Relapse Prevention Group facilitated by Laila Merz, Ph.D. Saturdays 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Group members will be asked to RSVP one week prior and cancel within 24 hours if they are unable to attend. Appropriate for clients and their family members and friends who would like to offer support and continue learning about eating disorders. Clients should contact Dr. Merz at (636) 532-9188, Ext. 717.

Compulsive Overeating Group
facilitated by Patrice Ryan, Ph.D. Wednesday evenings 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Appropriate for clients with Binge Eating or compulsive overeating ages 17 and above. Contact Dr. Ryan prior to attending the group at (636) 532-9188, Ext. 228.

Hoarding Group Therapy
Heather Chik, Ph.D. will now be leading the Hoarding Group Therapy sessions, which will be help every other Wednesday night from 5:00pm-6:30pm.

Dr. Pollard will present to professional organizers
Alec Pollard, Ph.D. will be discussing strategies designed to assist families of compulsive hoarders who refuse to seek help. On January 10, 2011, he will guest lecture in a teleclass for members of the National Study Group on Chromic Disorganization(www.nsgcd.org). On March 14, 2011, he will be presenting to the St. Louis Chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers (www.napostl.com).

Dr. Pollard will speak at ADAA meeting in New Orleans
The annual meeting of the Anxiety Disorders Association of America (www.adaa.org) will be held March 24-27, 2011. Alec Pollard, Ph.D. will participate in a symposium on difficult-to-treat anxiety disorders and a clinical roundtable on treatment adjustments to address challenges in administering exposure therapies.
