Women’s Reproductive Mental Health and Wellness Program

Our specialty is Women’s Reproductive Mental Health and Wellness. We assist with concerns related to pregnancy, the postpartum period, miscarriage, infertility, infant death, menstruation, and menopause. Each of these can lead to struggles with depression, anxiety and stress. We are here to help you or a woman you love.

We offer psychological and psychiatric help to women of all ages about any issues related to the reproductive cycle.

    Services We Provide:

We provide counseling, support and psychiatric services for:

      • Postpartum depression, anxiety, or stress
      • Pregnancy
      • Miscarriage and pregnancy loss
      • Infertility
      • Preparing to get pregnant (preconceptual counseling)
      • PMS/PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder)
      • Nutritional needs of pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding mothers

Our psychiatrist and Medical Director, Dr. Melanie McKean, has extensive experience with mood changes and anxiety associated with all these issues. She consults with patients on medications that will help, as well as behavioral and nutritional changes. She provides care before, during and after pregnancy.

The Director of the program, Dr. Patrice Ryan, began her specialty in this area while in Knoxville, TN.  Since 1995 she has been treating individuals and couples (heterosexual and gay) that were pursuing treatments of all kinds for their fertility challenges.  In that time she conducted psychological evaluations (at the request of the fertility specialist and per the guidelines of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine), supportive psychotherapy, and at times, couples’ counseling.  In 1996 she began treating individuals and couples experiencing early and late-term pregnancy losses, stillbirths and infant deaths. Through treating these populations she has developed a genuine sensitivity to the stressors that these patients and their partners are experiencing. She has been a staff psychologist of the St. Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute since May, 2010 and a clinical staff member of the Women’s Reproductive Mental Health and Wellness Program since its inception.  Her vision for the program is to expand on the strong, positive start that its former Director, Dr. Bronwen Diantonio has accomplished.  She hopes to include support for high-risk pregnancy cases and initiate specialized treatment or support groups relevant to the special needs of this sector of women and their partners where feasible.
