Ryan Abraham, PsyD
Dr. Ryan Abraham is a licensed clinical psychologist in the Program for Psychology and Religion. He earned his Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL. He works primarily with adults and has experience in treating a variety of presenting problems. Dr. Abraham has experience and training in helping individuals with issues related to anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress and other trauma related concerns, depression, relationship problems, stress management, and life transitions. Dr. Abraham values the importance of developing a strong trusting therapeutic relationship. He encourages collaboration in creating individualized treatment goals that encourage living a more meaningful and valued life unencumbered by mental health obstacles. He is trained to utilize an array of evidenced based psychotherapy approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Dr. Abraham also received specialized training integrating spirituality and religion with evidenced based psychotherapy approaches during his graduate studies. He is skilled in helping individuals utilize their spirituality and religion to assist with improving mental health as well as working with spiritual and religiously based concerns including issues associated with working in ministry settings.

Sara Agha, MD
Sara Agha, M.D. is an adult psychiatrist at Saint Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute. She completed medical school and psychiatry residency at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. Dr. Agha has clinical interests in perinatal mental health, psychotherapy, mood disorders, substance use disorders, and anxiety disorders.

Victoria B. Ayden, M.D.
Dr. Ayden is a child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist at Saint Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute and an Assistant Professor in Psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine. She is dual board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry. Dr. Ayden specializes in the areas of eating disorders, mood disorders, anxiety, and ADHD. She has treated patients in a wide variety of clinical settings, including inpatient, residential, partial hospital, intensive outpatient, and outpatient, and has cared for many elite athletes and student-athletes.
She completed her General Psychiatry Residency and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine, where she was chief fellow during her last year of fellowship. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University. While in university, she was an NCAA Division I student-athlete and with her team won a Big Ten Championship and competed in the NCAA Final Four. She earned her medical degree from the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University, and while there, she led medical student seminars on the Mind-Body connection and was a tutor in the courses of Histology and Neuroanatomy. She continues to have an interest in Integrative Psychiatry and is pursuing further training in this field.

Rachel Barnholtz, LCSW
Rachel earned her master’s degree in social work from Washington University in St. Louis in 1996 She is a licensed clinical social worker working in the Health Psychology program. The majority of her career has been in the mental health field. More recently she provided psychotherapy in an outpatient neurology clinic in St.Louis wiith patients diagnosed with various neurological conditions. Patients as well as caregivers were seen who were experiencing issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, stress, relationship issues and trauma history. Treatment modalities included Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Strength-Based Therapy, Client Centered Therapy and Mindfulness. Her genuine and empathic personality have provided positive therapeutic relationships. It is this relationship that has provided the foundation for successful outcomes for her clients.

Ashley Bell, LPC
Ashley Bell is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Health Psychology Program at the Macklind location. Ashley brings her community mental health, private practice, and lived experiences to work with individuals who are navigating illness, disability, neurodivergence, and life changes. Ashley enjoys working with individuals from a wide range of life phases and circumstances, including those who are 12 years and older. Ashley often matches with those who can be described as neurodivergent, LGBTQ, or recovering perfectionists. Ashley’s style has been described as direct, relaxed, and warm, bringing her own experiences of brain injury, chronic illness, and complex trauma to work with those who feel underserved in the community. Ashley’s treatment approach can be described as existential, incorporating Cognitive Processing Therapy, Pain Reprocessing Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy when helpful to the client.

Denise Brennan, M. Ed., LPC
Denise Brennan is a Licensed Professional Counselor providing therapy at the Macklind location. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Saint Louis University in 2003 and earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling from University of Missouri- St. Louis in 2009. She is licensed in Missouri and Florida. Denise has over 10 years of experience working with adults, emerging adults and teens of diverse populations. Denise has worked in a variety of clinical settings including outpatient, inpatient and University settings. She has experience working with complex trauma as well as with clients struggling with depression, anxiety or trauma related to family or relationships. Denise is also passionate about working with clients who are struggling to adjust to life changes and/or are assimilating into a new culture. Denise often applies cognitive-behavioral therapy and person-centered therapy, but she also utilizes techniques from other modalities when they best fit the needs of a client. One of her guiding principles is to be compassionately honest; she has deep respect for someone’s unique experiences and believes everyone has individual strengths to be explored. Denise strives to build a therapeutic alliance to empower clients to address difficult experiences/emotions, helping them develop skills to build a life that feels authentic.

Jessica Burich, PMHNP-BC
Jessica Burich is a psychiatric nurse practitioner who can be found at both Macklind and Chesterfield locations. She obtained her master’s degree from Maryville University in St. Louis and is currently board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center to treat patients in Missouri. She obtained her nursing license from Goldfarb School of Nursing and has been working in behavioral health since 2014. Jessica works with patients across the life span and particular enjoys working with adolescence, young adults and individuals in the LGBTQIA+ community. She has worked in a variety of behavioral health settings including inpatient, residential, and outpatient care. She specializes in treating depression, anxiety, mood disorders, ADHD, and has nearly 10 years of experience of working with individuals with eating disorders. Jessica’s goal in providing care is to help her patients feel heard and work together to find a treatment plan that best fits her patient’s needs.

Kelly Bushur, Ph.D.
Dr. Kelly Bushur is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist working in the West County office. She received her doctorate from Southern Illinois University- Carbondale and is licensed in Missouri. She has over 20 years experience addressing a wide range of challenges and concerns and works with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. Dr. Bushur treats a variety of concerns including anxiety and mood disorders, ADHD/LD, behavioral problems, autism spectrum disorders, grief and related problems. She has particular interests in working with gifted children, adolescent development and managing life transitions successfully. She has specialized training in CBTI for insomnia. She develops individualized treatment plans using an array of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Dr. Bushur offers daytime and evening appointments.

Cara Capuano, LCSW
Cara Capuano is a licensed clinical social worker in the Reproductive Mental Health Program. She earned her Master of Social Work degree, with a school social work specialization, from Saint Louis University in 2004. Cara is a Preeclampsia/HELLP Syndrome survivor and wounded healer. Educated as a Generalist, she has attained over 20 years of experience serving women, adolescents, transplant recipients and donors, adults, older adults and caregivers across a variety of settings including schools, hospitals, homes and care facilities. Cara has expertise in crisis intervention, medical social work, care management, aging, caregiver coaching and dementia evaluation and education. Professional interests encompass perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, maternal mortality, trauma, grief, interpersonal relationships, end-of-life care, memory impairment and positive aging. In treatment, several types of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy are employed. Cara utilizes a holistic and strengths-based perspective, providing person-centered therapy. She seeks to create a safe, welcoming space and natural partnership between therapist and client in order to achieve mutually agreed upon goals and resulting personal growth. She believes in the inherent dignity and worth of every person.

Claudia Charles, PhD, LCSW
Director, Dialectical Behavior Therapy Program
Claudia earned her B.A. in Psychology and French in 1986, her M.A. in Human Development Counseling in 1990 and her Ph.D. in Family Therapy in 2016 all from Saint Louis University. Her early experience as a therapist was in families and couples. She has extensive history working with undergraduate and graduate students’ mental health focusing on anxiety, depression, and relational issues and eating concerns. She also has experience working with individuals dealing with trauma. She has received extensive training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and has experience working in this modality. Dr. Charles has received training with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Health Behavior and Wellness Coaching. Areas of interest include: Anxiety, Depression, Relationship and Family Issues, Eating Disorders, Trauma, Culture and Diversity issues.

Vivian Chi, M.D.
Dr. Chi, M.D. is an adult psychiatrist at Saint Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute. She completed her medical degree and general psychiatry residency at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. She earned her bachelor’s degree in stem cell biology from Harvard University. Dr. Chi has clinical expertise in a broad range of psychiatric illnesses, including mood disorders, psychotic disorders, and substance use. She is board-certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Mari Chimitris, LPC
Mari is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Center for OCD and Anxiety-Related Disorders (COARD). She earned a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and completed her clinical practicum and two years of postgraduate training at SLBMI in the COARD IOP/PHP program. She specializes in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and anxiety related disorders, including social anxiety, specific phobia, panic disorder, and depression. She provides clinical services to adolescents and adults. Mari’s treatment approach primarily draws from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and mindfulness-based interventions.

Kathy Corn, LCPC
Ms. Corn is a master’s level licensed psychologist. She works with children, adolescents and adults with anxiety disorders, mood/depressive disorders (including bi-polar disorder), autism/Asperger’s disorder, ADHD/ADD and other mental health problems. Her clinical approach is insight oriented and cognitive behavioral techniques. She received her masters of arts in clinical psychology from Eastern Illinois University in 1984. She has completed specialist training in anxiety disorders from St. Louis School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior in 1986. Ms. Corn practices primarily at the office in Belleville, Illinois. She is coauthor of the article entitled, “Panic Onset and Major Events in the Lives of Agoraphobics” in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology.

Margaret Cornell, Psy.D.
Dr. Margaret Cornell is a licensed clinical psychologist. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison before obtaining her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Adler University (Chicago Campus).
Dr. Cornell is an integral part of the Integrated Care Consulting Team and serves as the Associate Director of Integrated Care. She specializes in guiding organizations and Behavioral Health Consultants through the complex process of integrating behavioral health services into primary care. Dr. Cornell also specializes in depression and anxiety and utilizes a variety of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. She is dedicated to helping patients enhance their functioning and overall quality of life.

Alexis Custard-Mobley, EdD, MRC, LPC
Dr. Alexis Custard-Mobley is a Level of Care Clinician, providing clinical assessments to help determine the most appropriate level of care and treatment recommendations for patients seeking outpatient and intensive outpatient services. Alexis is a Licensed Professional Counselor who is passionate about helping people navigate life’s challenges with compassion, authenticity and practical support.
Throughout her career, she has worked in a variety of clinical and leadership roles ranging from both private practice and large healthcare organizations. Skilled in providing evidence-based psychotherapy, conducting comprehensive assessments, developing individualized treatment plans and supporting diverse populations including adolescents, adults, families, athletes, military members and individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Alexis is known for building strong rapport and creating safe, supportive spaces. She takes a collaborative and individualized approach to care while also bringing extensive experience in clinical operations, team leadership and healthcare advocacy. Her goal is to help people feel heard, empowered and supported as they move toward healing and long-term wellness.

Bronwen DiAntonio, Ph.D.
Dr. DiAntonio is a licensed psychologist and staff member of the Women’s Reproductive Mental Health and Wellness Program. She specializes in assisting women with concerns related to reproduction, including postpartum depression, pregnancy, miscarriage, infertility, and adjustment to life with young children. Dr. DiAntonio uses cognitive behavioral therapy in a supportive context. She helps clients identify what they want to change and then develop the skills to make that change happen.She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in 1999. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at University of Oregon Counseling Center and her post-doctoral training at St. Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute. She ran a private practice in St. Louis for ten years, focusing on reproductive mental health. She has attended advanced clinical training in postpartum depression with a nationally known expert in Philadelphia.
In addition to her primary interest in reproductive mental health, Dr. DiAntonio also treats women and men for a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, stress, and life balance. She has extensive experience with college and graduate students, and offers dissertation coaching. She is a member of the American Psychological Association.

Lisa Dierdorf, LPC
Lisa Dierdorf is a licensed professional counselor providing therapy with the Health Psychology Program. She graduated in 2012 with a master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Lindenwood University and in 2014 earned a two-year certificate of completion in Analytical Psychotherapy from the C.G. Jung Institute in Chicago. She is currently a student at The Portland Institute of Loss and Transition where she is working toward certification in complicated grief therapy. Ms. Dierdorf utilizes an eclectic approach to psychotherapy, drawing from diverse schools of thought depending on the needs of her client. Her primary approach to psychotherapy is rooted in existential and person-centered techniques. Ms. Dierdorf has worked in community mental health, on suicide and crisis hotlines, in private practice and has over 12 years of combined volunteer and work experience in hospice where she provided grief counseling and spiritual support to both patients and their families. Ms. Dierdorf acknowledges that anxiety, depression, and grief is uncomfortable and often painful. She encourages her clients to grant themselves the same understanding and compassion that they freely grant to others. Ms. Dierdorf is passionate in her belief that human suffering needs to be validated and deserves to be witnessed.

Acacia Douglas, LMFT
Acacia is a licensed marriage and family therapist, with a specialization in medical family therapy, earning her masters degree from St Louis University School of Medicine. Acacia specializes in the areas of couple and family dynamics, chronic illness, grief, caregiver support, life transitions, and LGBTQ+ populations. Focusing on systems that impact everyone, such as family, work, and social environments, she works collaboratively to build a custom treatment plan to support her patients in overcoming obstacles, reaching goals, and thriving in their own personal growth. Acacia’s specialization in medical family therapy allows her to work closely with primary care physicians and hospitals, helping to bridge the gap between mental and physical healthcare.

Dr. Deb Elliott-DeSorbo is a licensed clinical psychologist. She completed her undergraduate education at Rutgers University before obtaining a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from George Washington University.
Deb specializes in the areas of gender, sexuality, health psychology, integrated care, military (she was once an active duty clinical psychologist), marital therapy and trauma. She also has a passion for working with geriatric patients. She primarily utilizes a mix of cognitive-behavioral therapy and person-centered therapy but brings in techniques from many other schools of thought when they are of assistance to a client. She is passionate about what she does and wants nothing more than to help her clients succeed in their goals (both therapy goals and life goals). She is the Director of both the Health Psychology Program and the Gender Affirming Program for Transgender and Individuals with Non-Binary Identities, and serves as the Institute’s Training Director.

Elizabeth Elsberg, LCSW
Elizabeth Elsberg is a licensed clinical social worker. She received her Master’s in Social Work from St. Louis University, and her BA in Bioethics from the University of Virginia. Elizabeth has experience working with adolescents and adults in residential, IOP, group and outpatient settings. Her clinical interests include trauma, stress management, self-esteem, relationship concerns, LGBTQ+ issues and fertility and pregnancy-related issues within the LGBTQ+ population. Elizabeth utilizes a humanistic therapeutic approach and has specialized training in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). Her goal is to cultivate a therapeutic relationship based on trust and work collaboratively with clients to create and sustain desired change.

Christina Fales, Ph.D.
Christina Fales, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist in the DBT program at SLBMI, and an adjunct in the Psychology and Religion program. She graduated in 2004 with a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from University of California, Los Angeles, and received postgraduate training in Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience at Washington University in St. Louis. Her academic publications have focused on the brain basis for anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia. More recently Dr. Fales received further postgraduate training in Clinical Psychology at Fielding Graduate University, with training in CBT and psychodynamic approaches to treatment. Currently she specializes in the treatment of emotion dysregulation in adults and older adolescents, using cognitive approaches and mindfulness meditation. Additional interests include treatment of trauma and the effects of childhood trauma and poverty on the brain.

Shannon Fischer, LPC
Shannon Fischer earned her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Missouri – St. Louis in 2019. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor as well as a Nationally Certified Counselor. Shannon has experience working in community mental health as well as private practice working with a variety of clinical concerns. Shannon has a professional interest in anxiety, self-esteem and life transitions. She has an eclectic approach integrating a person-centered approach with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Narrative Therapy.

Randy Flanery, PhD
Randall C. Flanery, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist in the Program for Psychology and Religions and in the Eating Disorders Program. He earned his doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1983.
He has long been interested in incorporating psychological and spiritual perspectives in achieving recovery in mental health. He is committed to providing cutting edge, empirically supported treatments, and is trained in Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Specific treatment interests of his are: evidence-based treatments of depression, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and other variants of eating disorders. He also has a broad background in the treatment of a variety of childhood and adolescent conditions and helping individuals achieve lifetime healthy weight management. A particular interest is tailoring treatment for eating disorders and weight control concerns to accommodate the unique perspectives of males with those conditions.
He is an adjunct associate professor of Family Medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, and the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals, for which he is also an approved supervisor. He is a past associate editor and current reviewer of PsyCritiques, an online journal of reviews. He is a frequent speaker to professional and public groups.

Rebekah Freese, LCSW, PhD
Dr. Rebekah Freese holds a Masters of Social Work (MSW) as well as a Doctorate degree in Philosophy from the University of Missouri. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker of the State of Missouri. She has treated individuals with an array of eating disorders, trauma, and BPD since 1997.
Rebekah has a strong commitment to work with those who experience high severity of life-threatening behaviors especially youth and young adults. She has extensive training in evidenced based practice Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Family Based Treatment (FBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, Prolonged Exposure (PE) as well as the combination of DBT-PE. She is a member of the DBT consult team and facilitates one of the outpatient skills groups for the DBT program. She has proficiency in clinical program development, management, and growth as well as quality assurance and program evaluation. She is enthusiastic about her work and strives to assist her clients in developing balance and compassion in their lives.
She is actively involved in her community to advocate for education, social justice and awareness for mental health care and accessibility. She is a current volunteer for CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocate for abused and neglected children. She was a former expert practitioner for the Show-Me Disordered Eating and Eating Disorder ECHO. The ECHO connects interdisciplinary teams of experts with primary care providers to develop advanced skills and best practices. She was a member of the Missouri Eating Disorders Association (MOEDA) from 2021-2023 and served as board President in 2022. In her personal life, she enjoys hiking, reading, gardening, and spending time with family.

Rachel Freitag, LCSW
Rachel Freitag, LCSW is a Clinical Intake Specialist at St. Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute and provides Level of Care Assessments for Intensive Outpatient and Outpatient Services and clinical recommendations for treatment placement. Rachel is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and graduated with her Master of Social Work from Saint Louis University. She has experience working with a wide variety of populations, including children, adolescents, families and adults with disabilities in substance use, outpatient, community-based and school-based settings. Rachel prioritizes building a strong rapport with each client she has the privilege to serve.

Elizabeth Gordon, LPC
Elizabeth Gordon is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the Eating Disorders Program. She earned her Masters in Counseling at the University of Missouri in 2016. Elizabeth provides a warm and collaborative environment which promotes a sense of safety for clients to explore the things that are getting in the way of their hopes, dreams and achievements. She uses a strengths based, person-center approach and is experienced in utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness to treat a variety of concerns. Elizabeth works with adolescents and adults. In addition to eating disorders, she has experience working with individuals with self-injurious behavior, trauma, mood disorders, anxiety, and ADHD. Elizabeth welcomes the opportunity to walk alongside clients as they take the steps to improve their lives, develop self-empowerment, and increase further understanding of the self.
Sydney Greenwalt, PhD
Dr. Sydney Greenwalt is a licensed psychologist in the Gender Affirming Program. She earned her Masters in Clinical Adult Psychology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and her PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of Kansas. Sydney utilizes an integrative approach, drawing from acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and person-centered therapy. She values a therapeutic relationship rooted in genuineness, empathy, and unconditional positive regard. Sydney aims to create corrective emotional experiences through therapy to help clients understand themselves in new and unexpected ways. She particularly enjoys working LGBTQ+ clients, exploring socialization processes and environmental impact in resilience and adaptation.

Sofia Grewal, MD
Sofia Grewal, M.D. completed her psychiatry residency and geriatric fellowship at St. Louis University School of Medicine. Prior to joining St. Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute, she has been treating patients across St. Louis in her private practice and provided inpatient and outpatient care in local hospitals. Dr. Grewal has experience in treating depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety disorders. She is trained in psychopharmacology and various modalities in treating a range of mood disorders, substance abuse disorders, and psychotic disorders. Her specialty interest is in geriatric psychiatry, where she has provided care to residents in nursing homes and long-term care facilities in the St. Louis area. She is board-certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Christopher Grimes, PsyD
Director, Psychology and Religion Program
Dr. Christopher Grimes is the Director of the Program for Psychology and Religion at St. Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute and is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Family and Community Medicine at St. Louis University School of Medicine. He earned his Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology from the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in 2004. Dr. Grimes has particular interest and training in the assessment and treatment of clergy, religious, and people of faith. He also maintains a general outpatient caseload providing individual therapy, couple/family therapy, and psychological testing services at the Behavioral Medicine Institute. Dr. Grimes is licensed to practice psychology in the State of Missouri and is credentialed through the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT). His professional memberships include the American Psychological Association, the Missouri Psychological Association, and the Christian Association for Psychological Studies. He is active in research and writing in the area of religion / spirituality and psychological wellness.

Christy Grimes is a Clinical Intake Specialist, providing Level of Care Assessments and Screenings for Intensive Outpatient and Outpatient Services at Saint Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute. This position provides clinical recommendations for treatment placement only and does not provide ongoing treatment. Christy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She completed her Master of Social Work degree in 2002 from Missouri State University. Prior to coming to SLBMI, Christy worked at a state-wide non-profit agency, serving the last 16 years as the Intake Coordinator. She has over twenty years of experience working with children, adolescents, and families in residential and community-based settings. Christy strives to build therapeutic connections with each client she has the privilege to work with.

Yoshiko Hall, PsyD
Dr. Hall is a licensed clinical psychologist in the General Psychology Program. She has 13 years of experience providing compassionate, evidence-based therapy tailored to the unique needs of each individual and couple she works with.
She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College and a Master’s in Educational Psychology from Northeastern University.
As an Asian immigrant herself, Dr. Hall is deeply committed to serving Asian and immigrant communities. She brings personal insight and professional expertise to help patients navigate identity development, intergenerational conflicts, and cultural trauma. Her culturally-inclusive approach embraces patients from a wide range of cultural, racial, ethnic, spiritual, and religious backgrounds.
In addition to working with adult individuals, Dr. Hall has a special interest in working with couples, particularly those in mixed-race or multicultural relationships. Her approach focuses on helping partners strengthen their relationship by understanding relational/attachment patterns, and fostering strong emotional bonds.
Before joining SLBMI, Dr. Hall served as the Coordinator of Multicultural Services at Saint Louis University and Baylor University Counseling Centers, where she specialized in meeting the needs of students from diverse backgrounds.

Collins Hansen, LPC
Collins Hansen is a Licensed Professional Counselor practicing in St. Louis, MO. Collins earned her MA in Counseling in 2020 from Covenant Theological
Seminary in St. Louis, MO. Her degree specialized in an integrated approach to counseling focusing on evidence based theories and the impact spirituality has on our mental health. Collins works with a wide range of challenges and concerns. She has a particular passion in working with adults and adolescents struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, addictions, and disordered eating behaviors. Mishell Hashmi, Psy.D.
Director, Eating Disorders Program
Dr. Mishell Hashmi is the Director of the Eating Disorder program and a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Midwestern University in 2007. She has extensive experience working with eating disorders in Residential, PHP, IOP and outpatient settings. Dr. Hashmi uses an integrated approach and is experienced in utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Dr. Hashmi has also completed training in Family Based Therapy (FBT) for eating disorders, Internal Family Systems (IFS), as well as advanced training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Dr. Hashmi enjoys working with teenagers and adults. She also has extensive experience working with individuals with self-injury, trauma, mood disorders and transgender issues. Dr. Sophie Haven is a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Missouri, working in the Center for OCD and Anxiety-Related Disorders (COARD). She earned her Ph.D. from University of Missouri – St. Louis in 2023 and completed her internship training at the Missouri Health Sciences Psychology Consortium, primarily at the Harry S Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital. Dr. Haven is passionate about helping others achieve their therapy goals through a collaborative therapeutic approach. Dr. Haven primarily uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), incorporating mindfulness and values-based work. She works with adults seeking treatment for anxiety, OCD, PTSD and substance use concerns.

Jennifer Henry is a licensed professional counselor in the General Psychology Program. She completed her undergraduate studies at Drury University before earning her Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Jennifer has over 20 years of experience working with college students within a university setting. She has vast experience working with adults in areas such as anxiety, depression, body image concerns, relational issues, grief, and trauma. Jennifer employs an eclectic approach to therapy, often utilizing a person-centered or cognitive-behavioral approach. She believes that every individual has worth and value and is passionate about helping her clients regain their sense of hope and stability. She considers it a privilege to provide a place where her clients can share freely and allow themselves to be truly seen, knowing that they have a partner who believes in them and sees their many strengths. If religious faith is important to her clients, she welcomes the opportunity to draw from those beliefs as part of the therapeutic process. Rachel Hines is a clinician with the Eating Disorders Program at Saint Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute. She is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the State of Missouri and a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) in the State of Illinois. Rachel earned a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University. Rachel’s passion for helping people navigate recovery and live their most fulfilling lives led her to pursue a career in counseling. With experience treating a range of issues, including eating disorders, depression, anxiety, substance use disorders and trauma, Rachel approaches the therapeutic process collaboratively, placing primacy on the insight and experience that her clients bring to the relationship. She works with adolescents, adults and families. Taylor Jackson (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the Reproductive Mental Health Program, who can be found at both Chesterfield and Macklind locations. She obtained her master’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis and is licensed in Missouri. Her experience has primarily been working with individuals and couples in the perinatal period of life, experiencing any reproductive mental health related concerns. Taylor integrates her knowledge and background as a full-spectrum doula into her therapy practice—including somatic work, holistic wellness, and cultural informed practices. Taylor believes in being in partnership with clients to achieve wellness, using modalities such as Person-Centered Therapy. Taylor is passionately committed to fostering safe environments for patients, particularly in historically challenging settings, to allow an enriching place for growth.

Shahid Kaous, MD
Shahid Kaous, MD, is a board-certified adult psychiatrist who has been in the practice of medicine for more than 40 years. After completing his medical education and residency training in internal medicine he practiced general/family medicine in Pakistan for 15 years. After relocating to the U.S. he completed his residency training in the neuroscience department of the University of North Dakota. He has worked for the last 15 years in a variety of settings as an adult psychiatrist including inpatient, outpatient, correctional, private and community clinics and in the veteran affairs healthcare system. Dr. Kaous is familiar with treating a broad range of psychiatric disorders, trauma and stress-related disorders, mental health and substance use co-occurring disorders.

Sister Therese Anne Kiefer, ASC
Sister Therese Anne earned a BA in Theology, an MA in Religious Education and an MA in Pastoral Studies, in addition to postgraduate work. Her schools of study include Saint Louis University, Fordham University, Loyola and Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. She holds a certificate in spiritual direction from Aquinas Institute in St. Louis. Therese Anne has ministered at the parish level as a teacher, principal, and director of religious education. On the national level, she has been a team member of the North American Forum on the Catechumenate. Before coming to minister at St. Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute, she was director of ongoing formation for her religious community, the Adorers of the Blood of Christ, United States Region. As a spiritual director, Sister Therese Anne feels her mission is to accompany others in becoming the free person that is God’s dream for them.

Michael Knobeloch, PsyD
Dr. Michael Knobeloch is a Licensed Psychologist and the Director of the Child, Adolescent, and Family Program. He earned his PsyD at Indiana State University in 2013, followed by a two-year post-doctoral residency in neuropsychological assessment at Psychology Specialists in Decatur, Illinois. Dr. Knobeloch specializes in psychological and neuropsychological evaluations for AD/HD and neurocognitive disorders, using the information gained to provide strategies to help clients improve their day-to-day functioning. He also provides psychotherapy services for a range of psychological difficulties, with specific interests in treating children, adolescents, and adults with anxiety and depression. Dr. Andrea Knoll is a Licensed Psychologist within the Center for OCD & and Anxiety Related Disorder program at Saint Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute. She completed her Psy.D. at Indiana State University and completed two years of postdoctoral specialty training in developmental pediatrics at Harbor in Toledo, Ohio. Dr. Knoll combines compassion and creativity to support individuals navigating OCD, depression, anxiety, and trauma-related concerns. Her therapeutic approach is integrative, drawing from a variety of evidence-based treatments while always tailoring treatment to the unique needs of each client. Known for her warm, engaging style, Dr. Knoll creates a safe, collaborative space where clients feel supported in working toward meaningful change. Cathy Lander-Goldberg earned her master’s degree in social work from Washington University in 2003. She is a licensed clinical social worker and treats a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, OCD, Body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs), hoarding disorder, infertility and grief/loss. She works with clients from age 10 through older adulthood. Cathy often utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well as expressive therapy techniques such as journaling, photography and/or art into her work with clients. She has many years of experience conducting expressive workshops in a variety of settings including psychiatric hospitals, schools for at-risk youth, residential treatment centers and universities. Presently, Mrs. Lyons, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), possesses over 12 years of clinical and academic teaching experience within university settings, complemented by 20 years of extensive clinical and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) therapy, along with proficient management of a multi-staffed private practice. Mrs. Lyons clinical focus areas encompass eating disorders, stress, anxiety and depression, grief and loss, military, as well as family/relationship dynamics and personal growth.

Cullan May, LPC
Cullan May is a licensed professional counselor practicing in the Center for OCD and Anxiety-Related Disorders. Cullan specializes in the treatment of OCD and a diverse spectrum of anxiety disorders in COARD’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). He earned his Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling from Lindenwood University in 2021, completing his internship while working in a juvenile justice setting, and his supervision period in an outpatient setting where evidence-based treatments were the standard. Beth McCadden, PhD
Beth McCadden (she, hers, her) is a licensed psychologist who received her PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Utah. As a St. Louis native, Dr. McCadden graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a BA in Psychology and minor in Creative Writing before pursuing an MA in community counseling at Marquette University. As a member of the Generalist Team at SLBMI, Dr. McCadden works with adult clients using an integrative approach consisting of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), cognitive process therapy (CPT), Interpersonal Therapy (IT), Feminist – Multicultural Therapy (FMT) and person-centered treatments within a strength-based mindset. Having worked in multiple university counseling centers and community mental health clinics, Dr. McCadden is passionate about helping clients manage depression, anxiety, trauma, perfectionism, identity issues, grief and transitions across the lifespan, to name just a few areas. Dr. McCadden has received extensive training in working with survivors of sexual violence, domestic violence and with marginalized populations impacted by discrimination. Skylar Nichols is a licensed clinical social worker in both the Gender Affirming Program and the Eating Disorders Program. They earned their Master’s in Social Work from Simmons University in Boston, MA. They utilize an integrated therapeutic approach, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, and Somatic Experiencing.
Skylar specializes in working with adolescents and adults experiencing eating disorders as well as those who identify as LGBTQ+. They also have extensive experience with individuals and groups treating depression, suicidal ideation, self-harming behaviors, anxiety, and trauma.

Thomas Phillips, LPC
Thomas Phillips (He/Him) is a licensed professional counselor in the Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) Program. He completed his masters in adult clinical psychology at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) in 2023. He is licensed in Missouri. Thomas completed his practicum here at the institute with the DBT’s intensive outpatient program (IOP) and completed his post-graduate and advanced graduate fellowships within the DBT program. During these experiences, he received specialized training in the treatment of disorders stemming from emotional dysregulation at both the outpatient and intensive outpatient levels of care. His clinical interests include mood disorders (depression, bipolar, etc.) and disorders of emotional dysregulation and related concerns (non-suicidal self-harm and suicidal ideation). His treatment approach is primarily dialectical behavior therapy but includes elements from other therapies, including cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and schema therapy.

Dr. Pollard is Founding Director of the Center for OCD & Anxiety-Related Disorders (COARD) and Professor Emeritus of Family and Community Medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He graduated in 1981 from the California School of Professional Psychology-San Diego with a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and received postdoctoral training in anxiety disorders at the Behavior Therapy Unit at Temple University Health Sciences Center. Dr. Pollard is a licensed psychologist who works with a range of obsessive-compulsive and anxiety-related disorders, with a special interest in patients ambivalent about or resistant to therapy. He is on the Scientific Advisory Board of the International OCD Foundation and chairs the organization’s national training initiative: the Behavior Therapy Training Institute. Dr. Pollard also serves on the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Canadian Institute for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders and the Obsessive-Compulsive Cognitions Working Group research collaborative, and is former chair of the Clinical Advisory Board of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America. Patrice Ryan, PhD
Director, Women’s Reproductive Mental Health and Wellness Program
Dr. Ryan is a licensed Clinical Psychologist in both Missouri and Tennessee, where she maintained a solo practice for 15 years. Dr. Ryan serves as the Director of the Women’s Reproductive Mental Health and Wellness Program at SLBMI. She received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Tennessee in 1994. She has a Master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of North Texas. Since 1994, Dr. Ryan has provided a wide array of mental health treatment to individuals, couples, older children, adolescents and couples. She has treated children in foster care and their foster parents; collegiate athletes; women and couples undergoing fertility treatments and/or experiencing high risk pregnancies or recovering from pregnancy loss. Over the years she has kept a general practice, treating anxiety; depression; eating disorder and weight management cases; stress management; trauma; relationship issues; career and work-related problems; grief; and relaxation training. From 2002 until 2010 she was the on-site provider of mental health services for employees of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee through their Employee Assistance Program. In this setting she provided individual counseling, management consultation, and conducted numerous psycho-educational lectures to employees on topics ranging from adjustment to change, helping a colleague through trauma, weight management, and stress awareness and relaxation training.

Rev. Bryan R. Salminen, PhD, LPC, LMFT
The Rev. Dr. Bryan R. Salminen, earned his Ph.D. from St. Louis University in Marriage and Family Therapy. He specializes in working with couples and family therapy and also has been a professor of pastoral care and counseling. Dr. Salminen’s primary theoretical orientations are family systems theory, solution oriented brief therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. Dr. Salminen works primarily with adults and has experience in treating a variety of presenting problems such as depression, anxiety, trauma and abuse and sexual addiction. He values the importance of respect, kindness and compassion for the client and works hard to ensure a healthy therapeutic relationship. As a Lutheran pastor/professor, Dr. Salminen helps client utilize their faith-based orientation in achieving their goals. Also, Dr. Salminen works closely with church workers to assist them in vocational/theological concerns that may arise in the ministry. Dr. Salminen has had a long career serving the Lutheran church, and currently is pastor of Hope Lutheran in Alpena, Michigan. Dr. Salminen sees patients via telehealth as a clinician of SLBMI and a Licensed Marriage of Family Therapist in the State of Missouri.
Cindy Schmidt, PhD
Dr. Cindy Schmidt is a licensed clinical psychologist in the Program for Psychology and Religion. She earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT. While there, she studied how religion and spirituality influenced the impact of adverse childhood experiences as people grew into young adulthood. Connecting with the sacred offers us the opportunity to heal, grow our kindness and compassion, and rekindle our values. Dr. Schmidt strives to create a sacred space within the context of therapy treatment to offer a whole-person approach to healing and growth. Using cognitive behavioral tools, mindful awareness, and values prioritization, we work together to build a life filled with meaning, purpose, gratitude, and compassion. Dr. Schmidt works with adults and has a strong background working with individuals experiencing complicated health issues, depression, stress, and feelings of loneliness and disconnection. She has additional focused experience working with teachers, active military service members, and clergy.

Madalyn Schneider, PhD, PMH-C
Dr. Schneider is a Licensed Psychologist in the Reproductive Mental Health Program. She earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2014 and worked in university counseling center settings prior to joining SLBMI. Trained as a generalist, Dr. Schneider has experience working with a wide variety of clients and clinical concerns. She obtained additional certification in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) in 2025, and in addition to perinatal and reproductive mental health, her special interests include: anxiety, stress, mindfulness, and identity-related concerns (e.g., LGBTQ+, career, relationships, and navigating life transitions). Dr. Schneider uses an eclectic approach in therapy, integrating Cognitive-Behavioral, Interpersonal, Feminist, and Relational-Cultural approaches in her clinical work. She works collaboratively with her clients to help them identify and successfully work toward their personalized therapeutic goals.
Natalie Seminario, MD
Natalie Seminario, M.D. is a child and adolescent psychiatrist at Saint Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute. She is triple board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry and addiction psychiatry. She completed her Psychiatry Residency and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, where she served as chief fellow and completed her Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Seminario has clinical interests in ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, mood and anxiety disorders, trauma-related conditions and co-occurring substance use disorders. She emphasizes developmentally informed care, family collaboration, and evidence-based medication management, and has treated patients across a wide range of clinical settings, including inpatient, partial hospital, consultation-liaison, emergency psychiatry, telepsychiatry and outpatient care.

Paul Simon, DO
Dr Paul Simon is a general psychiatrist who joined SLBMI in 2021. He has a wide range of professional interests including adolescent, adult, and geriatric mental health issues. He obtained his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2005 followed by a residency in general psychiatry at Washington University in St. Louis. He also has an undergraduate degree in psychology and a masters degree in social science administration from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He is board certified
in general psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Through his work with the Missouri Psychiatric Physicians Association, he has been active in political advocacy and founded a political action committee. He is a member of the Catholic Medical Association and is involved in the psychology and religion program at the St. Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute. He is especially interested in expanding the provision of mental health services to inner city youth in the St. Louis and other metropolitan areas.

Allison Smith, MSN, PMHNP-BC
Allison Smith is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner serving clients at our Chesterfield location and via telehealth. She is licensed to practice in Missouri after receiving her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Saint Louis University and her master’s degree in nursing with PMHNP certification from Northern Kentucky University.
Allison has experience seeing patients of all ages across various mental health settings. She has five years of specialized experience with eating disorders and co-morbid conditions. She is passionate about serving clients struggling with eating disorders, anxiety disorders, depression, mood disorders, OCD, PTSD, Bipolar disorders, ADHD and post-partum related conditions. Allison values providing patient-centered care and collaborating with clients to develop individualized treatment plans tailored to each client.

Sherry Spann, LPC

Leah Strickman, LCSW
Leah Strickman is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in the Eating Disorders program. She earned her Master of Social Work at Saint Louis University. Leah enjoys working with adults and adolescents and has extensive experience treating individuals with eating disorders in residential, PHP and IOP levels of care. She works with a variety of issues including eating disorders, anxiety disorders, depression, self-injurious behavior and suicidality, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and issues related to gender and sexuality. She utilizes a strengths-based, person-centered approach to therapy and incorporates elements from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI), exposure and response prevention (ERP), psychodynamic therapy and other approaches depending on each client’s needs and preferences. Leah believes that therapy provides a safe and accepting space from which people can grow and make positive changes in their lives.

Dorothy E. Toran, LCSW
Dorothy Toran, LCSW, has a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Washington University. She has professional experience working in a variety of clinical settings prior to joining the SLBMI Eating Disorder Treatment Team. She enjoys working within the adult IOP program and facilitating the Saturday morning group for people offering recovery support to the IOP participants. Other areas of clinical interest include the treatment of mood disorders, adjustment disorders and the impact of significant transitions throughout the life cycle. She is committed to crafting individualized treatment plans based on the unique needs of each client and the application of best practice standards. She has expertise in numerous cognitively based treatment modalities as well as insight-oriented and interpersonal psychotherapy. Dorothy is an approved social work licensing supervisor in the state of Missouri.

Melanie VanDyke, PhD
Melanie VanDyke conducts training and consultation with mental health professionals. She earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Nebraska, where she helped establish the Anxiety Disorders Clinic with Debra Hope. Dr. VanDyke completed her Postdoctoral Fellowship in Intensive Treatment for Individuals with OCD and Related Disorders at the Saint Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute, mentored by Alec Pollard. She has extensive experience in evidence-based treatments for anxiety and related disorders. Dr. VanDyke was recognized as the Missouri Psychologist of the Year and was elected to serve on the American Psychological Association’s Council of Representatives. She also contributes to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America’s (ADAA) Public Education Committee, where she works to make evidence-based treatment information accessible to therapists, patients, and families.
Dr. VanDyke and her colleagues published research on Recovery Avoidance: improving treatment outcomes for individuals with treatment refractory symptoms and addressing family well-being when an individual refuses treatment. These projects culminated in the publication of the self-help book: When a Loved One Won’t Seek Mental Health Treatment: How to Promote Recovery and Reclaim Your Family’s Well-Being. Dr. VanDyke and her colleagues train and consult with clinicians to help these families with the Family Well-Being Approach.

Michele Vining, LPC/LCPC
Michele Vining is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the State of Missouri and a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) in the state of Illinois. She received her Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling from Lindenwood University. Michele has many years of clinical experience in outpatient, inpatient, and individual settings collaborating with individuals and families with mental health and other co-occurring disorders. She has experience with working with people struggling with substance abuse and their families, both victims and perpetrators of domestic violence, eating disorders, stress related to medical challenges. She sees patients 18 years and older, has a specialty with working with first responders, law enforcement, medical providers, aging population, and with women experiencing hormonal issues including perimenopause and menopause.

Eileen Vollmer, LPC
Eileen Vollmer, LPC is an IOP coordinator and also leads IOP therapy groups. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Child Development and Family Relations/Elementary Education from The University of Arizona in Tucson, studied Biblical Counseling at Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis and graduated with her Masters degree in Counseling from Lindenwood University, Belleville. Eileen is also a Certified Professional Wellness Coach and has owned her own nutrition coaching business since 2009 working with individuals and groups to implement healthy lifestyle practices. Eileen has been an educator for over 30 years teaching at all grade levels in public, private and homeschool settings. She places a high priority on connecting with clients, meeting them where they as well as challenging them to reach their potential.

Michael Wefelmeyer, PhD
Dr. Michael Wefelmeyer is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with the Center for OCD and Anxiety Related Disorders. He earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology in 2025 from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. Wefelmeyer completed his predoctoral internship at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. Although Dr. Wefelmeyer has completed extensive training with individuals of all ages, he has a specific interest in working with adolescents and young adults through an emotion-focused framework. Currently, Dr. Wefelmeyer sees patients of all ages at the outpatient and IOP/PHP levels of care. Further, Dr. Wefelmeyer provides psychological evaluations for AD/HD, Autism Spectrum Disorder and learning problems for children and adolescents.

Sophia Wetteroff, LMSW
Sophia Wetteroff is a Postgraduate Fellow working with the Center for OCD and Anxiety-Related Disorders. She earned her Master’s in Social Work with a concentration in Mental Health from Washington University. Sophia has worked primarily with adults in crisis intervention, inpatient mental health, substance use treatment and university-based counseling. Her approach to treatment combines person-centered and cognitive-behavioral therapies. She is dedicated to building genuine relationships and promoting social justice in her practice.
