Art Therapy / Expressive Therapy
Expressive or creative arts therapy is based on the idea that people can help heal themselves through art, music, dance, writing, or other expressive acts.
Art therapy is used in group and individual work to help clients see, understand and work through emotional conflicts and challenges, and most importantly, to visualize meaning, wholeness and purpose to their lives. Art therapy, as distinct from other therapy modalities, is active and experiential and focuses on the special language of the image, as it is produced by the client using art materials. The act of image-making frees energy and promotes creativity, encouraging our innate ability to heal, grow and bring our special gifts to life. Art therapy is appropriate for all ages of clients, and no previous art experience is necessary.
